From 1954 to 1996, the Meyer Center was housed in many different locations, such as old school buildings, churches, and Greenville General Hospital. In April 1997, the Center re-located to its current site in Walters Plaza, which was the first to be designed specifically for the program. The expanded facility opened with an enrollment of 25 children in three classrooms. New classrooms were opened in 1997, 1998 and 2000.
In May 2006, the Meyer Center kicked-off a very successful Capital Campaign. Thanks to the generosity of our community, the Walters Plaza building, named in honor of the Charles D. Walters Family, was purchased in June 2007. Renovations in 2008 provided space for eight classrooms new OT and PT gyms, four speech therapy treatment areas, administrative offices and two new playgrounds. In 2009, the Meyer Center provided services to more than 175 children.
